W.H. Gayton & Sons is a family-run craft bakery based in Grendon, North Warwickshire. Established in 1919, the business has remained in the Gayton family for generations, building a reputation for traditional baking, quality products and friendly service. Producing a wide range of handmade breads, cakes, pastries and confectionery, the bakery continues to combine long-standing traditions with investment in modern equipment to support its growing business.
The Challenge
They needed a more efficient way to package their growing range of products. Their existing L-sealer was labour-intensive and required more than 14 hours of packing each day. The bakery wanted to reduce labour, improve pack quality and shelf life, and invest in a simple, reliable solution that could handle a wide variety of products.

The Solution
FDA Packaging supplied a FLEXWRAP flow wrapping machine, configured to provide the flexibility needed for bakery production. The machine allowed the bakery to wrap multiple product sizes and formats on a single system, while providing a much more automated packaging process than their previous L-sealer operation. The straightforward controls and simple adjustment system also made it easy to train staff and quickly switch between products when required.
The Results
The impact was immediate. Packing time was reduced by more than 50%, cutting a process that previously took over 14 hours a day in half. Packaging quality also improved, helping to enhance product presentation and shelf life. The machine proved reliable in day-to-day operation, was easy for staff to learn, and provided the flexibility needed to wrap a wide range of bakery products. They now wrap over 30 different size products!
